This skin is “Brain-tanned” with eggs, and birch smoke.
Brain-tan has become an umbrella term for fat-softening. When we have access to brains we use them, but sometimes we don’t, and we use eggs, and bear fat, or olive oil instead. Then we smoke the hides, which helps preserve the softness of the skin and give the hides a nice smokey smell and color to the skin side.
This hide is safe to get cozy with and you can feel good knowing there are no nasty chemicals used at all, good for you, good for the environment :)
